Please Submit Your Stories

As many of you know, we are meeting at the Ministry of  Transportation on February 9th, 2012.  I am looking for your stories on how the 407 ETR’s billing/customer service has affected you. Please email them to  or snail mail them to Stop the 407 ETR’s Abuse of Power, 75 Bayly Street West, P.O. Box 14524, Ajax, Ontario, L1S 7K7. If you can provide your name, address and account numbers that would be helpful to verify the accuracy of the stories.

Not everyone has had the billing nightmares some have experienced, but I know there are stories out there for an example, you receive your bill and you notice an astrix beside a charge and have had to call in to find out that your transponder didn’t pick up where you exited or entered from.  When you call in to inquire you get stories that  someone was following too closely and so your transponder didn’t register properly and so the 407 will bill the next exit or guess at your entrance.  Or  maybe you’ve noticed that every once in a while you receive a video toll charge and have had to call in.  We want to know your experience.  Of course if you haven’t received your bills or have had to spend an amount of time on the phone inquiring about anything we want to know the good and the bad.

What we want to be able to do is provide the Ministry of Transportation a clear picture of what all the issues are surrounding the 407 ETR’s administration and why we believe the power for them to deny a person’s ability to register their vehicles legally should be curbed.  Also, we want an independent study done that measures how much traffic the 407 ETR is handling by way of VTK’s as we have evidence that would suggest there are too many quirks in the system that would render their accounting inaccurate.

Again, please email all your billing/customer service stories to .  Please do not forget your name, address and account numbers to verify the accuracy of the stories.

  1. I got a denial notice from mto saying that i owe the 407ETR 7,300.00 which is ridicilous and speaking to someone from there office basically told me to pay the amount in full and then i will be able to renew my sticker. Not sure how I am going to pay the outstanding amount if I am not able to drive to work to make the money to pay them. This is ridicilous and crazy

I can’t send it. Is there another way to submit the story?

This is a corporation that has the right to take from you as they please
Best thing is to not use this road other road leads to wherever the 407
Goes take a chill pill when you hit the Toronto roads.

Petra, I understand your frustration, but they do not have the right to do as they please and we are holding them accountable. I agree with you. We have to hit them in the pocket book before they wake up. I haven’t been on the highway for many many years. NOBODY in my family takes the highway either.

  5. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about 407 billing.

I moved away in Jan. and stopped using the 407. I called them when in March to make sure everything was squared because I was going to send my transponder back. They said everything was good.

Now in late May they have sent me a bill that was ‘lost in their system’ from back in November that is apparently unpaid… I cant remember back then when exactly I was on the road to know what is going on.
But they shouldn’t be able to just throw a bill at me in May from Nov. and be completely unreasonable with helping me to resolve the bill, even considering I called to ensure everything was ok.
I don’t think they should be able to operate how ever they want to and have the ability to withhold my licence plate if I do not agree.

It’s ridiculous. Hydro One has a retail code. Their policy is that if they under billed someone, they only have 2 years to catch up. If they don’t catch up within that 2 year period, then they lose. When they catch up, the fault is theirs, not the consumer and so they don’t expect interest and fees for their mistakes. 407 ETR goes after people for up to 5-10 years later with no consequences to them. This is more than wrong and will be stopped… eventually. We just need to get louder.

I think so many of us are victims of the 407. I have a story. I would love to talk to other people who are having similar problems to me with the 407. My ex husband used a transponder in my name and a car I never drove in my name. 407 jacked up a bill from 1000 to 48,000 as of present.
